FEBS given Top-Rated 2014 Nonprofit award

“We are excited to be named a Top-Rated 2014 Nonprofit,” says Patricia Norton. The Top-Rated Nonprofit award was based on the large number of positive reviews that Florida Exotic Bird Sanctuary received – reviews written by volunteers, donors and clients. People posted their personal experience with the nonprofit. While the Top-Rated Awards run through the end of October, FEBS was part of the inaugural group to qualify for the year. In addition, we have been added to GreatNonprofits #GivingTuesday Guide – an interactive guide to top nonprofits throughout the years. Look for this near the holidays.
“Savvy donors want to see the impact of their donations more than ever,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits, “People with direct experience with Florida Exotic Bird Sanctuary have voted that the organization is making a real difference.”
Being on the Top-Rated list gives donors and volunteers more confidence that this is a credible organization. The reviews by volunteers, clients and other donors show the on-the-ground results of this nonprofit. This award is a form of recognition by the community.

“RAISE THE FLIGHT” matching funds campaign!

matching funds picture
An anonymous donor has made a very generous donation and has offered up to $5,000 in
matching funds to help purchase cage wire for our first free flight aviary at our new location!
Please help us RAISE UP a new flight cage that will be twice the size of the current one at the
Wesley Chapel location. This flight cage will be 80ft x 30ft x 20ft and house up to 100 macaws.
We also have frames for 4 more cages that will be built for the Moluccans, Amazons, African
Greys, Eclectus and our special needs feather plucking birds. In essence, your donation will be
doubled. Every dollar donated will equal two dollars! Every donation will go directly to funding
labor and cage wire for the new flights at our sister property in Hudson!

Today we want to give a big shout out to a company from Brooksville Florida called MAIN STREET FABRICATION AND MANUFACTURING, www.mainstreetfab.com. They generously donated 900.00 worth of plates needed for the new 80 foot aviary.  Our Project Manager Jeff went to the metal fabrication shop for help with our project and when the owner of this company, Raymond Woolever, heard what we needed the materials for, and graciously offered to donate the custom made plates and only charged us wholesale cost for the extension poles for the aviary!

We look forward to doing business in the future with this great company!

Thank you greatly!

The Start of the New Aviaries in Hudson

Todays Blog is about a wonderful couple that met us at the Wesley Chapel location and jumped right into action when they saw what our needs were for putting up our new 80 foot aviary in our new facility in Hudson. Randy and Janet invited Bob Cook and Pat Norton to their property to show them some materials of greenhouse hoops that they were not using and wanted to know if we could use them! We were thrilled and were just amazed by this couples generosity and willingness to jump in with both feet and start brainstorming ways they could help us! We talked for hours and have made two new friends in this lovely couple!

Randy and Janet and another friend of theirs loaded up the materials and brought them all the way to us and helped unload. There are enough materials here to make many large flight-cages! We are working on getting them erected and then please look for a major fundraiser coming so that we can raise the money for the cage wire! The new aviaries will house Macaws in an 80x30x20  flight cage, Moluccans in a 40x30x20 flight, a “Special needs flight that may need a pole barn built over it, to house the plucked Macaws that have come to us, and many more for the Greys, Amazons and Mini Macaws. We are so excited to start the work on these wonderful new flight cages.  If you or anyone you know are able to volunteer some time to help in Hudson, please contact Pat directly at 813-545-5406

Freedom Point at The Villages tours FEBS

Recently we were happy to give a tour to some of the residences from “Freedom Point at The Villages! It was a good time had by all!   A special Thank you to Valerie (Program Director for Freedom Point) for organizing the group that wished to come on this trip and making sure everyone had a safe and enlightening experience with the Sanctuary Parrots.

Some of the residences bought dream catchers and t-shirts and got to take home feathers and gifts for the grand kids!
We have made all of these kind people Honorary Members of Florida Exotic Bird Sanctuary and hopefully it will be an experience they will never forget!
