Volunteers Coming Through on Saturdays

Wow! What an Extraordinary Saturday!  We had a full parking lot of volunteer help.  This is our goal for every day.  Our birdies don’t take a day off, they need your help 365 days a year, rain or shine.  We could use a few extra feeders on weekdays between 8am -3pm and Sundays between 10am – 1pm.  If you have availability during these hours, there are two shifts that need filled; a morning feeding at 8am or a second feeding and water change between noon and 3pm.  Please contact us at 1-844-352-2473 and select option 2 to leave a message and your contact info or email birdmother@flabirdsanctuary.com.  We will be happy to get back to you within 24 hours.  Please remember we offer students over the age of 16 a safe fulfilling environment to meet their high school requirement service hours at FEBS.  Feel free to visit the website and fill out the volunteer application HERE and email it to birdmother@flabirdsanctuary.com

Winter is here…

Winter is here and it’s getting chilly at night!  Check out what staff member Bobbi Armour is making for some of the birds at FEBS that are lacking their full feathers coats.  Keeping these birds warm is a priority in the cold weather however it is amazing how adaptable these parrots are and Florida is the perfect tropical atmosphere for them to thrive in.  Bobbi made these out of baby clothes which she cut the arms out of to allow space for the wings.  How inventive and helpful!  Thank you Bobbi!!! 🙂

FEBS Staff and Volunteer Holiday Party!

Much fun, food and conversation was had and new friends were made at our first annual Holiday get together at Birdmother’s home.  Most of our volunteers are at the Sanctuary in Hudson on different days and they only know one another by names on the volunteer board.  Today they all got to meet, talk about their favorite birds and fun was had by all!  We missed a few that were not able to make it today but be assured we will be doing many more events for the dedicated people that make it possible for us to give the parrots in our care the love and attention that each one of you provide!  Thank you all!

A Special Volunteer Thank You

This week we want to give a special thanks to a volunteer named Kenneth Kelly.  He worked his entire vacation week from 12/11-12/16 at FEBS!   Ken is from New York and is a retired Navy man who worked on submarines.  He has a Blue and Gold Macaw, a Green Wing Macaw, and an Umbrella Cockatoo at home.  He plans to move to Florida soon (we can’t wait) :).  We can’t say thank you enough to all he and the many volunteers have done.  You all make such a huge difference every day. When asked what Ken thought of what we were doing at FEBS he said “It’s unique… we are making it happen.. it can be done”.  Thank you for all of your hard work.  To find out how you can help FEBS click the link below.

FLIGHTS FOR FREEDOM

Flights for Freedom HRHappy Independence Day to all of our bird lovers, enthusiasts, supporters, staff, volunteers, and especially to all of the 600+ birds that have found their way to Florida Exotic Bird Sanctuary to enjoy Independence Day everyday!
This is such a special time for FEBS and we are reaching out to all of you to help with the wonderful expansion project underway in Hudson. There are so many families who have contacted us to help give their bird the freedom that only FEBS can provide. Therefore, we took action and have been working nonstop over the last year to build a new beautiful “parrot-dize” for not only our current flock, but those waiting to arrive.
Our goal is to raise $100,000 for this project. We would like to request that each and every one of you donate at least $20.00 (the cost of a weeks’ worth of coffee) to help us buy the materials and pay for the additional labor to build 20 new state-of-the-art aviaries. We are reaching out to almost 2000 of you—our supporters—and believe with the help of all of you we can make this become a reality!
FEBS will be posting pictures on our website and blog as the aviaries go up and the birds are released into their beautiful new environments!
To donate, simply mail your check, or go to our website and click on the big blue feather. You will be directed to the checkout box “Flights For Freedom” and remember, all donations are tax deductible so you tell your friends and they can tell their friends what a wonderful cause this is!  We are very blessed to be able to help these beautiful parrots in this way, and know that you are all a large part of that blessing.

Thank you all greatly for being a part of such a wonderful cause!

Hudson Update

Hi everyone put some new pictures of conures and cockatiels. Keep an eye out for more to come.

Thanks to a group of wonderful volunteers we have made some great progress to the macaw flight and have brought another group of birds over to Hudson via their very large trucks and trailers.  We are hoping to move more birds and cages soon and can always use some extra help so give us a call if you have large trailers or trucks.

Remember we are always in need of volunteers especially at this time.  It takes us on average more then 5 hours just to feed the birds so whether you can build, clean, spray a water bottle and chat with a few birds, make some bird toys that they lovingly rip apart in 2.2 seconds or just come to support and help give a bottle of water to someone for their hard work,  we would love to see you.  None of this would be possible if it weren’t for all of you, your love and hard work for all these  wonderful birds.  Not only does volunteering feel good in your heart but its great excersise for the mind and body too!  Just seeing the birds brings and unconditional smile to your face as well as they love seeing!

Again, let us know if you are able to help us move some birds by sending us an email at birdmother@flabirdsanctuary.com with your number and we will give you a call back.

WE WANT YOU!

FEBS Volunteer graphicClick on the flyer above and you will be directed to our online volunteer application where you can fill out then submit. Let us know some times,  in the additional comments section,  when you would like to help all our wonderful 500+ birds in their new, wonderful and larger forever aviaries!  We have MANY ways for you to help so don’t just think you have to be a builder as we need creative minds for planting flowers and bushes and other landscaping.  We need hands for making toys to replenish the ones they destroyed 5 minutes after we put in the last ones.  We need help with campaigns, grant writing, people who don’t mind getting dirty, people to help us get supplies we need, volunteer leaders and so much more! Everyone of us and of all ages have special talents that we are sure will help us to help the birds be happy and healthy the rest of their life!

Also if you are cleaning out your garage, homes or even your gardens,  recycle everything you can first, I bet if you no longer need it we probably do!  We are in need of items both big and small for our new sanctuary from everything to brooms, tools (powered and hand), garbage cans (both metal and plastic), plastic bins for organizing even old towels and blankets to dishwashers, cabinets, refrigerators, sinks and more.  Things don’t have to be new, just working and we can give you a donation receipt for it too!

Remember that all your volunteer hours look great on resumes and are a must for high school and college students! Contact your boss and see if you company participates in a volunteer program where you can make even more for us just by volunteering and probably get credit for yourself.  Its a WIN WIN either way and the birds will thank you with their UNCONDITIONAL LOVE and happy antics and silly sounds!
