Volunteers Coming Through on Saturdays

Wow! What an Extraordinary Saturday!  We had a full parking lot of volunteer help.  This is our goal for every day.  Our birdies don’t take a day off, they need your help 365 days a year, rain or shine.  We could use a few extra feeders on weekdays between 8am -3pm and Sundays between 10am – 1pm.  If you have availability during these hours, there are two shifts that need filled; a morning feeding at 8am or a second feeding and water change between noon and 3pm.  Please contact us at 1-844-352-2473 and select option 2 to leave a message and your contact info or email birdmother@flabirdsanctuary.com.  We will be happy to get back to you within 24 hours.  Please remember we offer students over the age of 16 a safe fulfilling environment to meet their high school requirement service hours at FEBS.  Feel free to visit the website and fill out the volunteer application HERE and email it to birdmother@flabirdsanctuary.com

Winter is here…

Winter is here and it’s getting chilly at night!  Check out what staff member Bobbi Armour is making for some of the birds at FEBS that are lacking their full feathers coats.  Keeping these birds warm is a priority in the cold weather however it is amazing how adaptable these parrots are and Florida is the perfect tropical atmosphere for them to thrive in.  Bobbi made these out of baby clothes which she cut the arms out of to allow space for the wings.  How inventive and helpful!  Thank you Bobbi!!! 🙂

FEBS Staff and Volunteer Holiday Party!

Much fun, food and conversation was had and new friends were made at our first annual Holiday get together at Birdmother’s home.  Most of our volunteers are at the Sanctuary in Hudson on different days and they only know one another by names on the volunteer board.  Today they all got to meet, talk about their favorite birds and fun was had by all!  We missed a few that were not able to make it today but be assured we will be doing many more events for the dedicated people that make it possible for us to give the parrots in our care the love and attention that each one of you provide!  Thank you all!

A Special Volunteer Thank You

This week we want to give a special thanks to a volunteer named Kenneth Kelly.  He worked his entire vacation week from 12/11-12/16 at FEBS!   Ken is from New York and is a retired Navy man who worked on submarines.  He has a Blue and Gold Macaw, a Green Wing Macaw, and an Umbrella Cockatoo at home.  He plans to move to Florida soon (we can’t wait) :).  We can’t say thank you enough to all he and the many volunteers have done.  You all make such a huge difference every day. When asked what Ken thought of what we were doing at FEBS he said “It’s unique… we are making it happen.. it can be done”.  Thank you for all of your hard work.  To find out how you can help FEBS click the link below.

FLIGHTS FOR FREEDOM

Flights for Freedom HRHappy Independence Day to all of our bird lovers, enthusiasts, supporters, staff, volunteers, and especially to all of the 600+ birds that have found their way to Florida Exotic Bird Sanctuary to enjoy Independence Day everyday!
This is such a special time for FEBS and we are reaching out to all of you to help with the wonderful expansion project underway in Hudson. There are so many families who have contacted us to help give their bird the freedom that only FEBS can provide. Therefore, we took action and have been working nonstop over the last year to build a new beautiful “parrot-dize” for not only our current flock, but those waiting to arrive.
Our goal is to raise $100,000 for this project. We would like to request that each and every one of you donate at least $20.00 (the cost of a weeks’ worth of coffee) to help us buy the materials and pay for the additional labor to build 20 new state-of-the-art aviaries. We are reaching out to almost 2000 of you—our supporters—and believe with the help of all of you we can make this become a reality!
FEBS will be posting pictures on our website and blog as the aviaries go up and the birds are released into their beautiful new environments!
To donate, simply mail your check, or go to our website and click on the big blue feather. You will be directed to the checkout box “Flights For Freedom” and remember, all donations are tax deductible so you tell your friends and they can tell their friends what a wonderful cause this is!  We are very blessed to be able to help these beautiful parrots in this way, and know that you are all a large part of that blessing.

Thank you all greatly for being a part of such a wonderful cause!

Miss Hippie Helps!

We want to shout out to all our wonderful volunteers that come to help us in this crazy Florida weather!  Whether it was super humid, hot or pouring rain we seem to find such fantastic volunteers!  Kayla is one of those volunteers so we want to give her a  Sza Sza kiss and say thank you for coming all the way from Ohio to help make some toys for the birds.

We have had so many other wonderful families, students, couples and even a  mother daughter teams from all over, including Illinois, California, Tennessee, Indiana and many more.  We have even had volunteers that have come out and shared their birthdays with us to help the birds….NOW THATS LOVE!
So from everyone here at FEBS including all our wonderful feathered flock we want to tell them that WE LOVE THEM right back and thank you for all you do!

The birds love music and dancing, so  this wonderful couple sang to the birds and in return the birds danced and sang right along with them.  It was beautiful music to all our ears!
